Hybrid Choppers for ‘Many Ways of Seeing’ Workshop and Exhibition

We did two crazy bicycles for this fun 8-week workshop project and exhibition, which was organised by the DesignSingapore Council and Singapore Polytechnic in 2006.

These experiential machines are a result of the collected memories – visual, textual and sensory – of the students. Memories were translated through a series of mappings and collages, as a way of integrating the city as memory, and using them as strategies in the transformation of a mobile object. ‘Chinatown’ and ‘Little India’ are expressions of the investigations and unique collection of memories of the 2 groups of students at the workshop.

The bicycles serve to ‘record’ and ‘chart’ the city, using the bike’s mechanisms as a system onto which interventions take place, thereby allowing them to continually evolve through time.
